Poking The Box of Creating Change

Public Group active 1 year, 9 months ago

I’m looking for ways that we as individuals can use our unique talents, or even our unique location and time, to create awareness for something we’re passionate about or something we stand for be it a nonprofit organization, a movement, a day of remembrance, an outlook on life etc.

Anymore, we can do something so out of the box and unique to create change! So, I thought I’d ask you guys to give some ideas:

Think about the guy that walked across America to raise money and awareness of Kiva
or Bike & Build where people ride across America and stop at Habitat for Humanity houses along the way
or some crazy blogging initiative that brings people together in a unique way for a cuase

What are some ways you have done something out of the box to do this?
What are ideas you have that you could – they can be really unique… things that pertain only to you even.

The point is to get creative with it. Like a Bake Sale to raise money for Kiva, but on Crack kind of thing haha.

Oh, and when we come up with something really awesome… whose down to work with me on this passion project? :D

    Hi guys,

Many people write or have written about finding your passion and doing what you love. I’m struggling to find my mission and doing what I should.

Every time something severe happens out there – every earthquake, every famine, every shooting – I feel a snippet of the world’s pain and anger upon my shoulders. Every time, I wonder what I can do or should be doing to make a change. I know it’s not my responsibility to solve all the earth’s problems, but I do feel like I’m in a position of extreme luxury. I have all the tools at my fingertips. I’m privileged to be able to make a difference. But how? What’s my goal, my mission, the road I have to follow, or at least the direction it’s moving in?

I suspect quite a few of you will feel the same way – after all, this place is called ChangeBlogger. Have you been able to articulate or approach your mission in life? How do you work on it through your writings?

That’s a difficult question. One of the things that I’m doing personally is the One Girl’s challenge where I go rock climbing in a school girl’s uniform to raise money for school girls in Sierra Leone. $250 to send one girl to school for a year. @ChantelleBaxter from Australia is part of that.

Also? In a more…business sense, I’ve decided to put my training, skills, and inclination together to assuage a Western World problem of–Happiness in romantic relationships. Specifically targeted toward business owners.

If I pander to first world issues, then maybe I can make enough money to support myself and friends..and in my wildest dreams, enough to donate significantly to charities. Does that make sense?

That schoolgirl challenge sounds quite amazing. Rock climbing?!

What you say definitely makes sense. So charities are a large part of the answer for you. I also love them and try to support here and there, but it still doesn’t feel complete. I long to find the bigger ‘why’ behind the things I do (and don’t do), some sort of meta-direction. And it takes time. Maybe that’s the biggest lesson in patience that I have to learn!
